Everyone gets know one another, teachers can learn about each individual’s goals and challenges, and the practice becomes more personal and meaningful. There is a calmer, more relaxed atmosphere in a small class setting where participants can feel more comfortable asking questions, trying new poses, and simply being themselves.
A smaller class size allows the practice to be more easily adapted to the energy and needs of the group while offering a more personalized approach that meets individuals where they are. As a yoga teacher and professional educator for more than 30 years, I still prepare lesson plans. That doesn’t mean I follow them rigidly, but they provide a thoughtful framework of sequenced asanas with purpose and progression — not simply random poses or canned flows.
